A multimodal site is a type of website that uses different forms of communication to share information. It can include text, images, videos, audio, and interactive features all in one place. This makes learning easier because users can understand information in more than one way. Multimodal sites are often used in education to support different learning styles. They help make complex ideas clearer and more engaging.
Today’s digital fluency workshop was a timely and energising way to reset my mindset and refocus for the year ahead. Exploring tools such as Google Slides, YouTube, and Hapara helped me reconnect with purposeful digital practice and reminded me why these tools matter within the Manaiakalani kaupapa.
The workshop helped me gain a clearer understanding of how to use Google Slides more effectively for instruction, how YouTube can be curated for purposeful learning, and how Hapara supports classroom management.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
Through the Digital Fluency Intensive, I deepened my understanding that Manaiakalani pedagogy is not about tools, but about empowering learners through visibility, connectedness and agency. I also gained greater insight into how digital fluency supports equity of access, ensuring all learners can participate, collaborate, and succeed in a digital learning environment.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability, or workflow as a professional?
I learned practical strategies that improved my confidence in using digital tools efficiently and intentionally. Understanding how to organize content, streamline workflows, and use collaborative platforms effectively has increased my professional capability. I feel more confident troubleshooting, adapting tools to suit learning needs, and modelling digital competence for students. This has helped me to focus more on teaching and learning rather than technical barriers.
What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
I learned how to scaffold digital skills so learners move from consuming content to creating and sharing their own learning. Strategies such as explicit teaching of digital workflows, encouraging student voice through digital creation, and using feedback tools to support reflection can be directly transferred to classroom practice.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability, or workflow in my personal life?
The skills and strategies explained during the workshop have also enhanced my personal digital confidence. I am more capable of organizing information, managing tasks, and using digital tools to communicate and collaborate effectively outside of work.
Today’s workshop snapped me out of holiday mode and back into teacher mode.
